I like to score...

Alright, now that Jeff finally got his pick in, I can post the most updated scores. Eric still leads the pack, but only because we keep picking his records (think about it):

Eric 421
Andrew 403
Sarah 292
Andy 285
Brian 278
Bruce 175
Mark 171
Jeff 168
Dwight 153
Karl 127
Kevin 107

Steve 56

And here is a list of the records still left in the tourney (the people who chose them are in parantheses):

Division 1
Hold Steady - Seperation Sunday (Andrew)
U2 - Actung Baby (Brian, Karl)
New Order - Sustance (Eric)
The Band -The Band (Andrew, Dwight)
The Cure - Disintegration (Brian, Steve)

Division 4

Now, here's a list of how many albums each person has left:

Brian - 7
Eric - 6
Sarah - 5
Dwight - 5
Andy - 5
Andrew - 5
Mark - 3
Karl - 3
Steve - 2
Jeff - 2
Bruce - 2
Kevin - 1
Jane - 0

As you can see, many of you could still do really well. The last few rounds are worth a lot of points, so even if you only have a few albums left, if they make it, they could jump you ahead by quite a bit.

Oh, and here are assignments for Steve, Jeff, and Jane:

Steve: Marvin Gaye - What's Going On vs. Arcade Fire - Funeral
Jane: U2 - Joshua Tree vs. Tom Waits - Mule Variations
Jeff: White Stripes - Elephant vs. Radiohead - OK Computer

Finally, a couple questions for you all as we wait people's picks: Are any of you cheering for underdogs that you didn't pick? And also, how is it that Pavement didn't even make it in the tournament? Before this whole thing started, I would have guessed Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain would have won it all. Are there other obvious records that we completely missed? And finally, are you all aware that Broken Social Scene, New Pornographers and The Hold Steady have new albums coming out on May 4? My head just might explode.

  1. I'm still rooting for any remaining Stones or Dylan album, plus the Band, which I should have had on my list. I don't think there's a whole lot of underdogs still remaining on that list...other than the Killers and the Lambchops. It's kind of amazing they're still in the tourney.

  2. It's worked out really well for me that I voiced my opposition to the whole scoring thing early on... I'm kind of rooting against the Stones in an underdog sort of way.

  3. In light of Bruce rooting against the Stones, I'm going to root twice as hard for them. Also, I was kind of hoping Dread Zeppelin would have gone farther in the tournament...not that I've ever heard them, but they sure were an underdog

  4. What is this "And here's who picked what album" crap?! I have intentionally been avoiding looking up who picked what album, so the music is forced to stand by itself and the personal politics are left at the curb, dangnabbit. (As the front-runner, I feel undermined and conspired against, especially as all of this was posted by Death Match Master and current second place holder...But I won't name names or point fingers. I'm not going to stoop to that.;) Anyways, as the timeless CCM Rock outfit Petra put it back in the glory days of '87: "This means war!"

  5. I'd like to second that Dread Zeppelin should have gone farther... or I don't know, at least LED Zeppelin should have gone farther... ...U2 is sounding AWESOME right about now.

  6. I've also decided to root against my number two choice...Marley's Legend. While it has influenced my music listening immensely, and I do love most musicians named Bob, I've decided it's lame to have a greatest hits album still in the contest.

  7. Hey, hey, hey, wait a minute. I know I've retired from the Death Match, but I see here I'm not getting credit for the fact that I also picked Bob Dylan, Blood on the Tracks, which I also mentioned in a comment after the initial picks were released. I'm not sure if that bumps me all the way up to 1st place, but I want my points, big daddy.

  8. Sorry Kevin...as moderator, I think Zwartitude gets your points from now on since you withdrew

  9. Nah, I think Kev's points should go to Steve or Jane to help push them in to the triple digits with the rest of the group...It just seems like the most charitable, Christian, socialist thing to do;)

  10. All reasons that the Music Death Match should have been a cooperation, not a competition, maaan. Can't we all just get along? I think Kev's points should be planted at the foot of a tree so they can nourish the tree and make shade for all the beautiful creatures.
