Shouldn't the initial round, theoretically, go quickly? I haven't gambled on the Final Four lately, but don't the initial match-ups tend to be the least fair? Like Syracuse vs. Northwestern BFE state. At the same time, that is 64 matches.
Instead of making it 128 places, maybe we just automatically put each top vote that wouldn't otherwise make it in the tournament with 45 points and randomly assign the order of the last x number of slots (where x=the number of top picks with no other votes)?
On the number one weighting thing, I agree with the diminishing returns idea. Like maybe the second vote is worth half as much as the first vote and the third vote is worth half that vote, etc. So a three-vote album is worth 78.75 and a two vote album is worth 67.5
Or, we could make the curve steeper so that the top slot is worth, say 2 points more than the second slot and the second worth 1.75 points more than the third, etc.
Or, we could do a round robin where every album goes up against every other album...
